BEVERLEY HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC DEPARTMENT ~ AN INTRODUCTION
MUSIC CURRICULUM
Music is taught at Key Stage 3, GCSE, AS Level and A2.
Musical abilities are developed through the three integrated activities of Performing, Composing and Listening/Appraising.
Students explore practical and creative work through individual, pair, small group and whole class activities.
They develop analytical and social skills through experiencing a range of live and recorded music from different periods and cultures.
INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS
Nine Instrumental Teachers from the East Riding Schools’ Music Service visit the school each week to teach
woodwind (single reeds), woodwind (double reeds), brass, percussion, upper strings, lower strings, keyboard, voice and guitar.
Approximately 140 students (approximately 1 in 6) receive tuition in small groups.
Lessons are timetabled on a rota basis and the standard of playing ranges from beginners through to grade 8+.
The current cost of lessons is £48 per term for a minimum of 30 lessons across the year.
MUSICAL ENSEMBLES
Many students participate in the extensive programme of extra-curricular ensembles which rehearse at lunch time and after school.

Students perform to members of the school and wider community throughout the year.
