KS3 Music

Each year group follows a unit based but progressive course, spanning a wide range of musical styles. Every module consists of the integrated activities of Performing, Composing and Listening with Understanding (of context and theory).

Differentiated tasks are provided to meet the needs of individual students. Assessment of specific skills is integral to each unit students are involved in the assessment of their own and each others’ practical work – i.e. Assessment for Learning.

Units are designed to be flexible, allowing teaching staff to meet the specific requirements of individual students and the dynamics of particular teaching groups whilst modelling concepts and tasks using their own particular musical strengths. Students can expect to use a variety of resources for composing and performing: keyboards; voices; tuned and untuned percussion and guitars (Y8)

All KS3 classes are taught in mixed ability tutor groups.

Y7 receive 2 x 1 hour per week. Y8 & Y9 receive 1 x 1 hour per week.
