Topic outline

  • Year 8 Maths course

    Course Description

Our aim is to develop fluent mathematicians.  We have adopted a mastery style curriculum that enables students to unpick the structure of mathematics and deepen understanding.  We aim to use concrete, pictoral and abstract methods to develop students skills.  Throughout KS3, students will be given a variety of problem solving questions.  In addition to this, students will be given formal investigational tasks and will write these up using mathematical symbols, diagrams and graphs.  Students are to study topics involving number calculations, geometry, number properties, algebraic expressions, statistics and probability.

The contents of each unit are differentiated according to the different ability groups and pupils are assessed throughout in a variety of different ways to ensure that they are making good progress.  Pupils will be placed in ability sets and maybe moved when deemed in their best interest.

  • Proportional Reasoning
