Year 7
This course will ensure your transition to Beverley High School is a positive experience equipping you with the skills and knowledge to feel a valued member of the school community and to consider your role within it and the wider community. You will do this through a range of activities including discussion, presentations from visiting speakers, peer assessment, co-operating with other students and interpreting information.
In Year 7 you will cover the following topics:
Introduction to school life including the school community and friendships
Rights and responsibility in school, rules, sanctions and rewards
Personal organisation
Democracy in action – to include elections and secret ballots
Anti-bullying including cyberbullying
Puberty including menstruation and emotional well-being
Personal care and hygiene
Information Advice and Guidance including looking jobs and careers and analysing personal skills and qualities
Staying safe including fire, electrical, personal and sun safety
Emergency first aid
Being healthy including diet and exercise
Financial understanding – What is money?
Year 8 and Year 9
The wellbeing curriculum helps you to embrace change, feel positive and enjoy healthy, safe, responsible lives.
Through active learning opportunities you will be encouraged to recognise and manage risk, take increasing responsibility for yourself, your choices and your behaviours and make a positive contribution to your family, the school and the community.
You will have the opportunity to learn through a range of activities including discussion, presentations from visiting speakers, peer assessment, cooperating with others in group activities and interpreting information.
You will always be encouraged to ensure that you can clarify information in order that you makes informed choices both now and in the future.
In Year 8 you will cover the following topics:
Families and family pressures
Changing relationships including separation and divorce
Further information on dealing with puberty and menstruation
Anti bullying
Self esteem and recognising individual talents
Financial understanding – What do banks do?
Careers Education
Facts and the law about drugs, alcohol and tobacco use
First aid
Personal target setting based on her school report.
In Year 9 you will cover the following topics:
Rights and responsibility
Taking risks including a cross curricular project with Mathematics
Mental Wellbeing
Body image and eating disorders
Careers Education with Information, Advice and Guidance about Key stage 4 choices
Introduction to Logonmoveon
Anti bullying
Alcohol awareness - fact or fiction
Sexual Health including contraception
Government. politics and the judicial system
Reasearch and presentation of a teenage health issue
Financial capabilities - My money week

In Year 11 you will have the opportunity to take part in work experience in an area of your choice.
In Year 11 you will cover the following topics:

Preparation for the world of work
Alcohol and risk taking

Applying for Post 16 opportunities

Careers education and guidance forms a major part of the course and in addition you will gain an insight into money management, your role in society including your rights as a citizen, During both Years 10 and 11 opportunities are given to you to record your personal achievements, skills and experiences. You will all use the Common Area Prospectus for research and applying for post-16 opportunities.
