Summary of Subject Area Programme

KEY STAGE 3 (KS3)

At Key Stage 3, students are taught in mixed ability groups throughout years 7, 8 and 9. Pupils follow a course produced by the department which is based on the Exploring Science scheme of work.

KEY STAGE 4 (KS4)

At Key Stage 4, students are taught in 6 groups which are set according to ability based on Teacher Assessment and their performance in the end-of-KS3 test.

During Year 10 students study AQA Science A, and in Year 11 they follow AQA Additional Science.

The groups are rotated throughout the year, so that at any one time two groups study biology, two study chemistry and two study physics. This enables each group to have a dedicated subject specialist teaching them their subject.

KEY STAGE 5 (KS5)

At Key Stage 5 we currently deliver AQA Biology, Chemistry and Physics. These are all Modular courses with tests in January and June. There is a very high uptake of Science at Key Stage 5 from both Beverley High and Beverley Grammar
