Course Outline

In Year 10 the focus is primarily on coursework though there is some coverage of Anthology texts, principally in preparation for the Year 10 examinations in June. In Year 11 the remaining coursework tasks are completed. The focus then shifts to exam preparation: completing analysis of texts from the Anthology and preparing for the written tasks and unseen section of English Paper 1.

Course Work Requirements

Pupils are required to complete five pieces of written coursework, namely:

  • Original Writing (English)

  • Media (English)

  • Wide Reading (English & Literature)

  • Shakespeare (English & Literature)

  • Twentieth Century Drama (Literature

In addition there are three oral coursework tasks covering the following skills:

  • Explain, describe and narrate

  • Explore, analyse and imagine

  • Discuss, argue and persuadePupils will be required to work individually, in a pair and in a group

Assessment and Examination Requirements

English: coursework (written and oral) accounts for 40% of the final grade. The terminal exam accounts for 60% and consists of two two hour papers. English Literature: coursework accounts for 30% of the final grade. The terminal exam accounts for 70% and consists of one two hour paper.
